Urban Health Initiative (UHI), Aligarh (Male Sterilization)
The Viklang Mand Buddhi Kalyan Samiti is currently working as a partner organization of CARE Inc., Project name is Urban Health Initiative funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Organization is working on family planning, especially on Non Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV). Viklang Mand Buddhi Kalyan Samiti started this project from 16th March 2012. This project started with 1 Project Coordinator, 1 Field Monitor & Documentation Coordinator and 10 Counselors. Combination of planned activities, hard work organization break the record of last 30 years of Aligarh. Organization creates a new record of 678 NSV baneberries in 10 months with very limited staff. This achievement can be done only with proper planning and dedication. District Administration (District Magistrate & Chief Development Officer) and Health Department of Aligarh appreciated the work of Viklang Mand Buddhi Kalyan Samiti at various podiums.
Viklang Mand Budhi Kalyan Samiti stands first and created the maximum no. Of NSV record in U.P the Project is still going on (with the support of CARE Inc. and with the confidence to create more and more new records.
Activities under this project
- Awareness generation for the family planning (used different IEC techniques)
- Motivated the target population (whose family has been completed) for the male sterilization
- Provided the services at the door step for the beneficiaries
- Sensitization of the community for the safe sex
- Distribution of the CONDOMS
- Organization of the felicitation programs to praise the beneficiaries (of NSV)
V. M. K. Special School, Haldwani:-
Organization is running a special school for Mentally Challenged Children since 1st of July 1996, with the support from Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, New Delhi. V. M. K Special School felicitated by Her Highness Governor of Uttrakhand Smt. Marget Alva in two consecutive years (2010 & 2011).
Implementation of Integrated Low Cost Sanitation Scheme, Aligarh & Hathras:-
The objective of this scheme is to convert low cost sanitation units through two pit pour flush latrines with superstructures and appropriate variations to suit local condition (area specific latrines) and construct new latrines where EWS house hold have no latrines and follow the in human practice dedicating in open area in Urban area. Organization implemented this project in Dist. Aligarh and Dist. Hathras from 2009 to 2012.
Swaran Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojna, Aligarh & Hathras:-
The Swaran Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojna shall seek to provide gainful employment to the unemployed poor of urban slums, through encouraging the setting up of self-employment ventures or provision of wage employment. This program was implemented in Aligarh and Hathras District in 2011 and 2012. Through this program1300 woman got benefit.
Employment Training for Women, Aligarh & Hathras:-
Organization provided employable training to women. The program was supported by Uttar Pradesh Mahila Kalyan Nigam. Under the program we provide 1 month, 2 month and 3 months training approximate to 200 women in several parts of District Aligarh and District Mahamaya Nagar.
Training of Urban Community Development Network, Aligarh & Mathura:-
Organization focuses much on training on different aspects, specially for women so we have develop ourselves as a training organization and imparted training at different levels. Organization has giving training to CDS, RCV, NHG, NHC and thrift and credit in District Mathura and Aligarh.
Kishori Shakti Yojna, Aligarh:-
We have provided training to adolescent girls. Organization has run four trainings in the village of Tehsil Khair, Jawa and Iglas of District Aligarh.
Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan, Aligarh:-
Organization has supported District Authorities of Aligarh in U.P. in running it pre integration camp/ special school for visually and hearing impaired children under sarv shiksha abhiyan at Koyle wali gali and kasimpur Aligarh.
Survey of Child Labour, Hathras:-
Organization has done child labour survey in District Maha Maya Nagar, U.P.
BPL Survey, Hathras & Aligarh:-
Organization has successfully done BPL Survey of District Maha Maya Nagar and District Aligarh (including all Tehsils).

Objective
- To provide training and education to the underprivileged section of the society like , poor women, unemployed and illiterate adults( to generate self employment )
- Work for the upliftment of the underserved women of the society
- To provide help /shelter/facilities for old people, children and disabled persons
- To create a healthy society through applying community based health and nutritional initiatives.
- To be the part of the family planning programs
- To decrease the maternal mortality and infant mortality rate (participation in the millennium development goal)
- Develop and run more and more training,education as well as health centres
Strategies
Organization planned , developed and followed different strategies for the different programs and projects as per the requirements and the guidelines of the funding agencies.
In general the strategies are:-
Establishment of the Training and educational centres and imparting training programs (formal/informal)
Awareness generation (for the family planning programme) through –group meetings with:-
- Slum population
- Factory Workers
- Chauraha Meeting(with daily wagers who waited for the work at the churahas)
- Evening Meetings with Rickshaw Pullers,
- Stake Holders Meeting
- Felicitation programs organised to owner the NSV beneficiaries
Development and Distribution of the IEC materials (pamphlets, posters, wall writings, booklets, handouts etc)
Identify and mobilise the local resources for the development of the community
Imparting education and training to the mentally challenged children and organising the group meeting and counselling session with the parents of such childrens
Main outcomes:-
- Developed faith in the community for the NSV
- Develop good networking with the different stake holders of the community in every district wherever it works
- Developed good communication and relationship with the administration and the respected funding agencies
- Create and develop good working team
- Develop good insight into the problems of the community especially on the health aspects.
- Develop good training and programme organising skills
- Become confident enough for to take any challenges to work in any difficult and different situation
Evaluation methods employed:-
- Weekly and monthly evaluation ( through the feedback sessions and meetings with the workers of the organisation)
- Midterm evaluation
- Final evaluation – (organization formulates the committee of the expert members who developed the evaluation form (which contain various information related to project) filled by the beneficiaries and finally inspected by some external agency.
Evaluation results:-
Evaluations done so far by the organization show that all the community level programme done by the organization had their successful results. Evaluation by the external agencies always gives good remarks. The amount of the success of NSV programme of the organisation specially praised by the D.M and CARE Inc.
The strength of the organization is the motivated workers, clear vision, defined objectives, the proper planning, ongoing evaluation etc. The result of which shows our progress & never ending efforts of organization.
